Ideas for activities

In the Danish youth group the number of participants in our real-life activities has been dropping slowly but surely. Because of this, we have decided to take a new approach, where we organise more one-day activities. First up is a concert in the late summer. We are also aiming to have a trip to Sweden for skiing this winter - if possible with the Swedish youth group.

What kinds of activities do you organise? And which are the most popular?

I can first speak on behalf of the Quebec chapter of the Canadian Hemophilia Society.  The main and basically only activity we have for youths of age varying between 16 and 30 years old is a "youth evening".  During that evening we have dinner at a sports themed restaurant and then after we go out to see a match of American (well precisely it`s Canadian) football.  We can have plenty of time for discussion during that night, and in the end the only objective, besides having fun, is to maintain a bound between us the youths.

We don’t have that yet, but one activity I would like to have in Quebec is a sort of like big brother activity.  I would like to have a one-night camping with the young adults (16-25 years old) and the real young (8-15 years old).  We could even do fishing before the dark falls.  I have found that young ones really keen to know more about us the young adults.

On the national scale we don’t have anything planned except a future meeting with all of the province’s delegates for the youth committee.

In Malaysia, we have Junior Boy`s Camp & Senior Camps. For the Junior Bpy`s Camp it is usually held during the school holidays whereby the young ones will have fun & activities either through camping or in the outskirts of town centre for a week. They will be some educational talks, physiotherapy & for the new boys, we might also teach & encourage them to prick themselves.

As for Senior camps it is more serous, whereby discussion on youth & new development in the Society will be the main topics. As for those who have girlfriends or family, they may also ask them to join as well.

In Indonesia, we always make a regular event for hemophiliac 3 - 4 times/year. On of the event is strictly for hemophiliacs. I start to make this event from the last 2 years. It is not common in Indonesia. Because PWH parents will never give a permission for their son to go by them self. I guess its similar to `Summer Camp` in Western countries. But according to the boys, they really have `great moments` without the parents around them.
How about, we make International summer camp? I guess it will a great event. We can ask pharmacy sponsors and WFH support for this. What do you think? Its some kind of Youth Program.

This will be fun. But there will be a lot of mechanics & pre-planning such as where to go, travelling cost, etc.

Hello friends,

My name is Sebastiaan and I am a member of the Dutch youth group. For several years we are organising a sailing weekend for young hemophiliac patiënts in the age of 18 - 30 years. We come together on fryday evening on the boat and have some introductional chat about the boat and how the weekend is going to look. On saterday we have some normal fun on the boat with all the participants. In the evening we invite a speaker who can tell us some more about typical subject(sport, hepatitus, travelling, etc.)in relation with Hemophilia. After the serious discusions there is place for whoever wants to go and take a drink in a bar.
On sunday morning we have some dicsusions with the woman and man apart to talk about ....
In the afternoon we arrive back at our starting place and that is the end of a nice weekend.
For an impression you can watch the pictures on the following link:

In 2003 I joined an international summer camp organized by the EHC. It was almost similar like the weekend we have, but then it was organized in France and the trip was 1 week. This trip was very interresting for me because I met a lot of international friends which are also here on this website. I have learned a lot of how the treatments are in other countries and how people act with their bleeding disorder.
For an impresion you can go see the homepage of an international friend of me (maggal):

If some is interresting in organising an international youth camp I am always willing to help you with giving tips about what was good on the trip in 2003 and what things could be done better. Maybe it is even a plan to organize it in the Netherlands on the boat we use. We have the accomodation and a weekendplan ready, we only need the budget.

I hope you liked my story and the pictures and maybe in the future we pseak each other...

Greetings Sebastiaan
