At the recent annual conference of the European Haemophilia Consortium (EHC) held in Parma, Italy, it was announced that in August 2008, the EHC will host a summer camp for European haemophiliacs aged 18-25. The venue for the summer camp is the Czech Republic.
Admission for the summer camp will follow the first-come-first-served principle, as there is a limit on the number of participants. More information about the process for signing up will be sent to the national member organisations by the EHC.
The conference also featured presentations of other summer camp initiatives around Europe. Monika Hartl reported on the Austrian camp model that includes both a summer and a winter camp featuring Alpine skiing, while David Silva from Spain told the audience about the Spanish annual camp, which takes place in a camp centre dedicated to hosting camps for people with haemophilia.
Finally, the French haemophilia organisation presented a succesful summer camp project focusing on diving. Diving has turned out to be an ideal sport for people with haemophilia and the camp offered participants the chance to develop their diving skills under the supervision of instructors. The French haemophilia organisation are now considering extending the diving camp to a pan-European event next summer.
